It always seems like a waste: you pay all this money every month for insurance and most like;y, you will never have to use it. But it is massively important, make no mistake about it.

What is Liability Insurance?

Liability insurance is sort of the flip side. It protects someone else or their property that might have been damaged due to something you did accidentally.

What is the official definition of Liability insurance?

It can be defined as insurance that pays out not to the holder of the insurance, but to the person who has been harmed due in some part to the actions of the policy holder.

This is what you might see on an official document.

What are the different types?

There is just about insurance for everything. Here is a list of a few:

Management

Covers the company for a set amount in the case that the company is sued due to something someone in a management position may have done.

Products

Product insurance is for companies that make and/or sell products.  Your product may have faults or could cause potential harm.  This will prepare you for lawsuits that may follow if this happens.

Third Party

This a policy  taken out by someone who wants to protect their self from claims made against them.

Farm

Farming is a very dangerous profession. These policies will protect you from any accidents that may happen down on the farm.

Landlord

If you are a landlord, you are sure to run across some tenets that may just be looking for something to sue you for. Liability insurance can help save you from this.

Liquor

Have you ever seen a bar fight? Hopefully they had liquor liability insurance. It pays for damage done to property or injuries sustained by individuals involved in incidents where alcohol has had an influence.

Nursing

Nurses are usually covered under their employers insurance, but in may not be a bad idea to get your own.  It will cover the actions of nurses and could be necessary because they have so much contact with patients.

Self employed

Self explanatory. If you work for yourself, you need to have some kind of coverage to protect yourself.

Travel

When you are away from home, most of your insurance policies will not cover accidents that happen in the country.  Having travel insurance will cover you in case of a robbery or accident while you are gone.

Garage

If you keep thing in your garage for business or pleasure, you may want to look into something like this. It may be covered in your home-owner's, but it won't hurt to look.

Small Business

It is a must. Nothing can sink a small business faster than a lawsuit.

Malpractice

It is mostly associated with doctors, but school officials, attorneys, and dentists are professions that also carry this type of liability insurance.

Personal

If you are self employed or own your own business, personal policies with help in the instance that someone tries to sue you personally if your business can't cover their lawsuit.

Student

If you are an intern at a company that does dangerous work, you may not be completely covered. You probably are, but it doesn't hurt to check. If you are not, look into this type of insurnace if you are worried.

Cost

You should know that it is hard to find out how much liability insurance cost online.  You may be able to get an estimate as to how much it might be, but you need to do it right.   You need to find a good, experienced and trusted insurance agent who will help you understand what your needs are. Each situation and region is completely different.

It makes me sick that people are aloud to just sue people for anything but it makes me even more sick that these are the type of people that we have raised in this society.

I hear you load and clear. It seems like people just go around suing other people just to try and make a quick busk. It screws up the whole system and makes us all pay more. I could go on forever about this

Do business owners really not get this? Seems pretty irresponsible to not get it, you are just asking for trouble. INsurance is a must if you own a business. It is a matter of life or death in my opinion
